Leon Poladian
Citation for Distinguished Service Award
Leon Poladian has been directly involved with the National Mathematics Summer School (NMSS) for over a quarter of a century. The NMSS is the result of a partnership between AAMT and the Australian National University, and countless young mathematicians have been challenged and inspired by the program. Leon has undertaken all of the roles in the academic program, as a tutor on several occasions in the 1990s, and as a lecturer since 1992, either to the Experienced or Main group in all but a few years. In 2000 Leon became Deputy Director, serving in this role until his appointment as Director in 2013 until 2017.
Leon is an Associate Professor in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Sydney. He is a member of the Applied Mathematics Research Group, working in the area of Teacher Training, Mathematical Biology and Numerical Optimisation.
Since the first school in 1968, Leon Poladian has been an important part of the fabric of NMSS for half of its life, and is worthy of recognition by AAMT through a Distinguished Service Award.
