Waging War on Worksheets Years 1-6

In this session, we will be putting worksheets and a range of other resources "under the microscope" to determine what role they should have in a 21st century, mathematics classroom. What's the alternative? What criteria can teachers use to assess the potential of a given resource in mathematics? We will be drawing upon the experience and expertise of participating teachers to develop an improved framework for unit and lesson planning using the Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards and Content Descriptors as a launching point.

Martin Holt

Martin Holt has been a primary teacher and a mathematics coordinator in a variety of schools both in Australia and overseas for over a decade. His practice is strongly influenced by the International Baccalaureate Program of Inquiry with an emphasis on questioning and concept based instruction. Martin encourages teachers to critically reflect on their practice and confront the vulnerabilities that we all feel as maths teachers at different times.  He promotes active student contribution in the learning in the development of a rigorous and stimulating classroom environment.
